Program Overview

Vision

The Eisenhower Health PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program builds skills for optimizing medication use to improve patient care in collaboration with the healthcare team.

Mission

Our residency program extends the Doctor of Pharmacy education to build the essential skills for developing, delivering, managing, and monitoring safe and cost-effective medication use strategies in collaboration with the healthcare team, to advance the level of Pharmacy practice for improving patient care, to develop healthcare system specific leadership and management skills, to provide medication use education and knowledge to healthcare professionals, students, and the public.

Overview

Our Eisenhower Health PGY1 Pharmacy residency program consists of required core rotations and elective rotations or learning experiences. Once the required four-week introductory rotations have been completed, the resident will rotate through the core rotations. Upon completion of the core rotations, the resident will be able to select elective rotations from a range of available topics in order to pursue clinical interests and customize their PGY1 experience.

Learning Experiences

Our residency program features a required 1-week orientation followed by a sequence of two 6-week introductory learning experiences in Pharmacy Operations and Pharmacy Informatics.

The 4-week core rotations learning experiences include:

  • Internal Medicine I,
  • Emergency Medicine I,
  • Critical Care I,
  • Infectious Disease I,
  • Medication Safety I,
  • Ambulatory Infusion I.

Elective 4-week rotations include:

  • Emergency Medicine II
  • Critical Care II
  • Internal Medicine II
  • Infectious Disease II
  • Ambulatory Infusion II
  • Medication Safety II
  • Pharmacy Informatics II

Required 12-month longitudinal learning experiences include, but are not limited to, a Research Project and staffing as a clinical pharmacist.
