    Best Practices for Residents

Thanks for helping us capture what life looks like inside the program. Here are a few best practices to keep content clean, usable, and platform-ready:

How to Film High Quality Content

    • Use vertical orientation (9:16) for all videos — this fits TikTok, Instagram Reels, and Facebook Reels best.
    • Clean your camera lens before filming. It makes a huge difference.
    • Use natural light when possible — face a window instead of having it behind you.
    • Avoid loud background noise if filming someone talking.
    • Keep it steady — prop your phone against something stable or use both hands or a tripod to reduce shakiness.
    • No filters, effects, or text overlays — we’ll handle all editing and captions later.
    • Avoid too much headroom — don’t cut off their forehead, but don’t leave a ton of space above their head either.
    • Backgrounds matter — shoot in clean, uncluttered areas when possible (hallways, team rooms, outside areas on campus, etc.).
    • Depth adds interest — if possible, avoid filming against a flat wall. Shoot with a little distance between your subject and the background
    • Have the speaker face the mic (your phone) — this helps with clarity.
    • Avoid windy outdoor spots — wind noise can ruin audio fast.
    • Avoid fast pans or zooms — slow, intentional movements are best if you’re showing the space.
    • Let moments breathe — record 2–3 seconds before and after the action so we have enough room to edit.

    Content Types That Work Great

    • Behind-the-scenes moments in clinic or hospital (as long as no patients/PHI are visible)
    • Group activities, team events, or everyday moments with co-residents
    • Mentorship or teaching moments with attendings (with consent)
    • “POV” moments (e.g. grabbing coffee on campus, walking into the sim lab)
    • Short clips answering prompts like:
      • “One thing I didn’t expect about residency…”
      • “My favorite part of Eisenhower GME is…”
    • Unless you are copying a specific trend, the more clips you can send your subject/event, the better. Quick cuts with lots of different angles/viewpoints are preferred for social.
    Do's and Dont's

    Do's and Don'ts

    Do:

    • Film with good lighting and clear audio
    • Keep clips between 10–30 seconds
    • Get permission if someone else is in your shot
    • Keep things professional but relaxed

    Don't:

    • Add music, text, stickers, or filters before sending
    • Include patients, medical records, or anything that could identify PHI
    • Film while providing patient care or in restricted areas

    Other Ways to Submit

    • Send your raw clips (no edits) via text to (760) 978-6274, upload them to our landing page, or message them to our social channels
    • Include your name and a brief description of what’s in the clip
If you’re responding to a prompt, let us know which one

If you’re not sure if something is usable, send it anyway — we’ll take a look. Thanks again for helping us show what life at Eisenhower GME is really like!
