ABOUT ME: I was born and raised in Houston, TX and enjoyed traveling and making amazing memories with my parents before going to college and, eventually, medical school. ABOUT ME: “I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music” -Albert Einstein, physicist/violinist. Being a professional violinist at the cultural palace of Egypt was a delightful honor, but it didn’t keep me from pursuing the ultimate joy of practicing the art of medicine. Believe me when I say that having Turkish coffee after shish kebab creates wonders!

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHT: It’s a bumpy journey that started with getting a free medical education leading to matching at Eisenhower Health; and it’s not the end yet!

ABOUT ME: I was born in Fontana, CA and raised traveling between the Inland Empire and Mexicali, Mexico. As a first-generation college student and the first physician in my family, I was raised in a home that emphasized hard work and caring for others as an act of love and service. I was fortunate enough to find mentors early in my undergraduate career that shaped these core values while serving the community through a career in the medical field. Outside of medicine, I like to travel and pick up new creative hobbies constantly, including drawing, painting, and cosplaying. I also love board games and am continuously searching for new games.

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHT: Spending a summer on the cliffs of Northern California studying Pacific seabirds to aid in forest conservation efforts with the Federal Bureau of Land Management. Geocaching soil samples for analysis of organic matter composition analysis of soil type conversion.
Performing behavioral and sound experiments on mouse models of Fragile X syndrome with IHC labeling of hippocampal neurons.

WHY EISENHOWER HEALTH? Having grown up traveling to and from Northern Mexico, I had an interest in training at a facility that served the communities of the Coachella Valley and Inland Empire. Eisenhower Health was uniquely situated to care for exactly that population and I am grateful for the caring physicians and staff that I saw striving to improve the lives of their patients while I rotated through Eisenhower as a medical student.

– Probably moved around too much: Born in Palo Alto, raised in San Jose, Pleasanton, San Ramon, Mountain View, Danville. Then Melbourne in Australia for 7-ish years. And now back in California!
– My passions in life: food, photography, exploring nature, gardening, playing the piano, keeping up with technology/privacy, and catching up with my shows, anime, and manga.
– Medical specialty interest: Cardiology (electrophysiology or interventional heart failure).
– Fun fact about me: Frederic Chopin is my favorite piano composer, and I love playing a full range of his works, especially Fantaisie-Impromptu Op.66, Waltz Op. 64 No. 2, and Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2.

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHT:

And interestingly, some papers on musculoskeletal biochem and intervention with the International Journal of Tryptophan Research, and Gerontology.
– Teaching! I really enjoyed mentoring my 2 students, watching them treat their patients well and with compassion, and seeing them go on to publish research and present at conferences.

HOMETOWN: Buea Southwest Region Cameroon

UNDERGRADUATE: Oakland University

MEDICAL SCHOOL: St. George’s University School of Medicine

ABOUT ME: I was born and raised in Buea, Cameroon, and moved to the United States with my family. After undergrad, I worked as a Clinical Research Associate for two years in the Department of Structural Heart Cardiology where my love for cardiology started. Some of my core values are diversity and mental wellness in medicine. Outside of medicine, I enjoy cooking, journaling, traveling and I have sort of an obsession with self-help books and podcasts.

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHT: First, I have been published in the Journal of the Americal College of Cardiology. I aspire to be a Cardiologist, so this gives me a headstart in the specialty I love. Secondly, leadership was also a big part of my academic journey, being part of the executive board of the student government at SGU and for our region of the Student National Medical Association (SNMA). Lastly, my top academic highlight must be matching into my #1 residency program.

WHY EISENHOWER HEALTH: During the interview season, I was looking for a program where I would have the perfect balance of supervised autonomy. It was also crucial for me to feel mentally supported by my program. I found all of these in Eisenhower Health. The staff was very friendly, and the relationship between the residents and faculty felt very organic and made me the most comfortable.

ABOUT ME: I feel very fortunate to be able to return to my home state for residency and I could not be more thrilled to start my career as a physician at Eisenhower. My passion for medicine comes from my mom. Her fascination with medicine and her many careers within the medical field inspired my journey from an early age. Prior to medical school, I worked in hospitals as well as on an ambulance for a number of years. Outside of medicine, I love to lap swim and I also love to sing. In my free time you’ll find me exploring new places in California (like Huell Howser in California’s Gold). A favorite recent experience was visiting an alpaca farm in Santa Barbara!

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHT: Studying medicine in the beautiful country of Saint Maarten!

WHY EISENHOWER HEALTH: It was clear to me after my visit to Eisenhower, I was where I was meant to be. I felt part of the team while attending morning report and hospital rounds. I was filled with excitement to learn from the physicians I met in my interview and in-person. I had the immediate impression the residents were extremely knowledgable and I knew I was going to get a great education. Since moving here, I’ve met some incredible people. RESIDENCY PROGRAM: Internal Medicine

HOMETOWN: Forestville, CA United States

UNDERGRADUATE: University of California, Berkeley

MEDICAL SCHOOL: Touro University California

ABOUT ME: I grew up in Northern California, Sonoma County and have called California home my entire life, including attending UC Berkeley for my undergraduate degree. I took a longer road to medical school, first working as an EMT, then as a Clinical Research Coordinator at a top cancer center in the nation, and managing a non-profit for a rare genetic disorder before deciding to pursue a career as a physician. I’m an avid sports fan (Go Warriors!) and enjoy “managing my fake teams” as my wife calls it, for both the football and basketball fantasy seasons (and anything else I can sneak in). I’ve loved getting to travel the world with my wife, but now look forward to the lively days at home with our daughter. In whatever spare time I can find I usually opt for a video game or a book, hopefully enjoyed with a good beer. When the weather is amenable, I also enjoy teeing it up with close friends on a picturesque golf course.

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHT: I was focused and dedicated during my time in medical school, earning myself a Sigma Sigma Phi Honor Society membership, but one of my favorite memories during medical school was working with our mobile diabetes education program to develop and record training videos for other students. My wife, a nurse, and I were able to record these videos that are now being used so that incoming medical students are able to quickly train and then help patients in an underserved community learn about and manage their diabetes – hopefully leaving a lasting impact.

WHY EISENHOWER HEALTH: I promised my wife (a Los Angeles native) I would at least consider moving back down to Southern California for Residency, and after my interview with Eisenhower Health I realized how fortunate I would be to complete my residency training here. Their state-of-the-art facilities and commitment to the community will help me to grow professionally and personally as a physician during my time here. The 100+ golf courses didn’t hurt either.

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHT: Being inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society during my transitional year of residency.

WHY EISENHOWER HEALTH: I was blown away on interview day by how friendly and personable the attendings were at Eisenhower! ABOUT ME: Born and raised in Iran, in a family where both of my parents were studying and teaching all the time, and I remember myself growing up between their books! My real interest in medicine is rooted in human connection and I have been always honored to be able to interact with patients from different walks of life. Can not imagine myself without medicine but try my best to make a good balance between my work and my personal life. Out of work, I enjoy gardening and cooking with vegetables that we grow in our garden, hiking, road trips, spending time with friends and family, reading Persian poetry books, and recently as a new mom started to write for my baby girl. The biggest gift of my life is my family and the newly added little one is a real blessing.

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHT: Graduated from Isfahan University of Medical Sciences. When I finished medical school, I felt I need to do something different and went to rural areas to practice independently as a PCP for two years; The experience was humanly and educationally deep. Had two years of research experience and hope to do more. Matched into my favorite residency program. Although after two clinical observerships in cardiology my interest in this field started to bloom, I am going to discover my real field of interest in IM in the next 3 years.

WHY EISENHOWER HEALTH: Eisenhower was one of my best observership experiences, gave me a real sense of being an Internal Medicine resident in the future and I realized how much I am excited to join such a great and professional team. ABOUT ME: I’m a first generation immigrant with a background in engineering and computer science and a broad range of interests. Over the years I have been involved in a broad range of extracurricular activities from flying airplanes to scuba diving around the world, practicing amateur archeology, conducting quantitative research, and volunteering in many programs in the community and at my schools. I’d say my two proudest achievements outside of the field of medicine are obtaining my private pilot license and, as part of an amateur archeology excursion, finding an intact glass bracelet dating to the Hellenistic rule of Israel. I’ve always been attracted to Internal Medicine as the field requires providing high quality, long term care to my patients. As a physician I strive to be as supportive as I can be to my team and place the needs and comfort of my patients above all else.

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHT:

  • MD, Magna Cum Laude
  • Treves G, Qazi M (January 29, 2022) Extensive Workup on Early-Onset Fibromyalgia: A Case Report. Cureus 14(1): e21714. doi:10.7759/cureus.21714. (source)

  • lycoNote with iterative decoy searching and open-search component analysis for high-throughput and reliable glycan spectral interpretation. Awaiting publication in the journal of Analytical Chemistry

WHY EISENHOWER HEALTH: Since deciding to become a physician over 10 years ago I knew I would need to excel in residency training to be the best doctor I can be. Of all programs I researched and interviewed at, Eisenhower provides the best combination of training, mentorship, and supporting staff. The program’s emphasis on research, resident wellness, and commitment to placing education above menial work is also very attractive. Combined with a great living location and a Geriatrics fellowship program, my interest, ranking Eisenhower Health as my top choice was a no-brainer.

ABOUT ME: I was born in Michoacan, Mexico. At a young age, my family moved to South Carolina to start a construction business. I worked in the family business full-time after high school. My Father specializes in building custom residential homes. I worked with him on all aspects of building a house. I enjoyed the creativity, the challenge, and spending time outdoors. After almost losing my thumb and having spent a week as a patient in the hospital, the trajectory of my life shifted dramatically. I had been preparing to take over my family’s construction business. ABOUT ME: I grew up in the vibrant island of Mombasa, Kenya, went to college in the heart of North Carolina, medical school in the beautiful, blue-waters-white-sand, spice island of Grenada, and settled in the diverse landscapes of California. My mom’s battle with cancer opened my eyes to healthcare inequalities and ignited my commitment to bridging these gaps. Now, drawn to internal medicine, I aim to pursue a fellowship in heme/onc, where I hope to use my detective-like skills to address healthcare disparities and make a real difference in people’s lives. When I’m not with loved ones, traveling, or cooking, I enjoy escape rooms and board games, especially ones that involve solving murder mystery case files. If I weren’t a doctor, I’d surely be a detective or a lawyer.

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHT: My academic highlight is navigating across continents for education, experiencing diverse transitions from Mombasa to North Carolina, to Grenada, and then to Orange County, CA, even amidst a pandemic. Now matched at my favorite program at Eisenhower Health with yet another move to Palm Desert, CA, ahead. Will also be graduating from medical school with distinction in research. I am so grateful for this journey.

WHY EISENHOWER HEALTH: Honestly, it’s the people. Being close to home was a bonus, but the program gave me a sense of peace. Everyone was so nice during the interview, and after it, I texted my family, “we are moving to Palm Desert”. Imagine my excitement on Match Day when I learned that the feeling was mutual 🙂 <3

UNDERGRADUATE SCHOOL: N/A

MEDICAL SCHOOL: Smt. B. K. Shah Medical Institute & Research Center

ABOUT ME: I was born and raised in Ahmedabad, India, and relocated to the United States in 2022 after completing medical school. One of my fondest childhood memories is traveling across various parts of India with my family. Growing up in a household where both my parents are physicians, particularly helping women in our community, sparked my interest in medicine early on. Internal Medicine captivates me due to its broad range of acute and chronic conditions, as well as its collaborative approach involving multidisciplinary teams. I am passionate about medicine’s transformative and healing capabilities. Besides medicine, I enjoy outdoor activities like hiking and playing various sports. You might find me sometimes sitting in a corner doodling or reading books.

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHT: Engaging in and actively contributing to different research projects and publications both during and after medical school, and securing a spot as an IM resident at Eisenhower Health.

WHY EISENHOWER HEALTH: I have consistently heard positive feedback about Eisenhower from the local residents during my stay in the area. This positive impression deepened when I completed my observership at Eisenhower. In addition to offering excellent academic rotations, the hospital also fosters a very welcoming work environment that made me feel like I was part of a close-knit family. The stunning view from the hospital was an added bonus.

MEDICAL SCHOOL: Universidad Autonoma de Baja California

ABOUT ME: I was born, raised, and trained in Mexico but after completing a series of clinical rotations in Houston, TX, I started working there as a clinical research coordinator of early phase hematology/oncology trials. A few years later, I became the research director for a research site in El Centro, CA, and an associate professor of medical genetics at my alma mater. Outside of medicine, I’m a husband and a dad (dad jokes in development) who enjoys mariachi music, hikes, and having movie marathons with his family.

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHT: During my time in medical school, I was a tutor for the microbiology department and a member of the student council. After graduation, I had the amazing opportunity of collaborating in the development of three programs for International Medical Graduates (IMGs).

WHY EISENHOWER HEALTH: It all started with great feedback from local physicians, but by the end of my interview it was decided, I needed to become part of this program. The faculty, program coordinator and residents seamlessly provided a fun, reassuring and informative experience during my interview day and second-look day. In addition, their state-of-the art facilities and commitment to their community only made my decision easier. I’m certain Eisenhower Medical Center will help me become the well-rounded physician I aspire to become.

ABOUT ME: I was born in Abu Dhabi originally, but California has been my home since the age of ten. Prior to medical school, I pursued my passion for music as a DJ, a pursuit I hope to reignite amidst the demands of residency, time permitting. Outside of medicine, I love working out, cherishing moments with my friends and family, and embracing the joy of hosting gatherings. I am always down to party and have a good time.

MEDICAL SCHOOL: American University of the Caribbean

ABOUT ME: I was born and raised in Southern California, and moved away for the first time for medical school. Since then, I have lived in the Caribbean, New York, and Florida, but have always felt the most at home in California. I have a huge passion for traveling (been to over 30 countries so far!) and hope to continue to grow that list any chance I can get. I love trying new things and will always be up for any new adventure. In my free time, you’ll most likely find me watching something Marvel, Disney, or Star Wars and hanging out with my friends and family (including my 2 dogs and cat).

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHT: During my clinical rotations, I saw a need for patient educational resources that was tailored for the population that one of my hospitals served. I worked with multiple attendings and hospital administrative staff to create 2 specific patient educational resources regarding the managements of Warfarin use and Asthma treatments that are still being utilized today.

WHY EISENHOWER HEALTH: I had the opportunity to do an elective rotation and attend the second-look at Eisenhower, and immediately felt the family-like atmosphere among all the residents and faculty. This, along with the large emphasis on education, well-being, and patient care I knew that Eisenhower Health was the perfect place for me. Also, I could not be happier coming back home to Southern California!
